Year three have worked exceptionally hard within their gymnastics lessons. The children have develop their straight, barrel and forward rolls as well as learning to move at the same time and in the same direction as a partner, using different levels and body parts to make their sequence look interesting. The children will build on and develop these skills during their gymnastic sessions in Year 4.
At St John Fisher, each class takes part in a mile run at least twice a week. We use our playground and field to do complete our runs and always have fun doing it! It has helped to develop our fitness and stamina as well as helping us to concentrate and be more alert in our lessons.
In our early years outdoor provision, we have daily access to a challenging environment that allows us to develop our physical skills developing vital skills such as; jumping, climbing, running, balancing and many more. We enjoy using the equipment to create our own challenges and move confidently in a range of ways, safely negotiating space and developing our problem solving skills.
Over the past few weeks, Year 4 have been developing their ability to sprint in athletics. They have worked on their posture and how to use their arms to move at a faster, more powerful pace. They then applied these skills into team relay races. Mr Wilton and Miss Graham were extremely impressed with the children’s perseverance and in particular, their ability to revise the order of their team and decide which runners should be at the beginning and end of the race. Well done Year 4!
