Year 6

The Year 6 team would like to welcome you to our class page – a place to keep up to date with important events in our class calendar, browse through some of the wonderful work we have been doing and enjoy the fabulous photo galleries which will build up as the year progresses.

We fully intend for this year to be both successful and fun!  There is a lot of hard work ahead of us as we journey through to July, but we are very confident that it will be a wonderful adventure from start to finish.

Please take some time to look at our weekly timetable so that you know what lessons we will be teaching, as well as the yearly curriculum overview for all subjects.

We operate an open door policy in year 6, and there will always be a member of the team available to see you at the end of the school day should you need to discuss anything with us.

We hope you enjoy browsing through our page.

Mrs Monaghan and Mr Brooks (the year 6 team).

Just a reminder that SATs club will be running each Tuesday after school, it will finish at 4pm.  This will give all children the opportunity to familiarise themselves with SATs and become more confident.

History – Mayan Civilisation

The children continued to develop their speaking and listening skills by discussing ideas and coming to an agreement when talking about the Maya Society in our history lesson. They had to organise information in a Venn diagram.

The children had a debate about the importance of education for dumpsite children. The children listened to each other’s ideas, counter argued, built on ideas and came to an agreement. They were fantastic! This was all in preparation for our discussion writing.

Year 6 demonstrated fantastic collaboration skills as they worked together to order a timeline using their knowledge of BC and AD dates. We were really impressed how they stayed on task and got the job done by working effectively together. We then used our skill of ordering to look at the Maya Civilisation timeline.
